Vibrant Flowers ready to bloom for the Summer.

The weather has started to get warmer, and I’m sure you’ve started to notice the familiar sound of a lawnmower on a Sunday morning once again. Summer is just around the corner, and it’s time to spruce up your garden. This year, why not inject a little bit more colour into your garden? Here are some of the most vibrant and eye-catching plants that will be in bloom all over the Summertime.

One of my favourite vibrant flowers from our website is the Canna Indica Lily. These flowers bloom in mid-summertime, and are a vibrant red colour. As the Summer ends and Autumn arrives, the blooms on these flowers gradually fade to orange, which will compliment the leaves on the trees perfectly. They are are also versatile and can be either potted as a feature plant you can take indoors in the colder months, or as a bedding plant.

Now, when you think of the Summertime and flowers, I’m sure this is the first one that springs to mind- the Sunflower. Sunflowers of course, are beautiful, tall bright yellow flowers that worship the sun, so you would need to plant yours in a location with direct sunlight. It is also safer to plant your seeds in a spot sheltered from the wind, as this could be a problem as the flower starts to grow. Also, when the seeds are planted, make sure you keep birds and squirrels at bay by putting some mesh over where you sowed them.

The next plant is evergreen, ensuring your garden will still have some colour all year round. The Pernettya Dwarf (Mountain Berry) have unique pearl shaped berries in either a bright white, purple or fuschia. During the Spring time, these plants have dainty flowers, until the Berries appear. These may still even be with you at Christmas time. As they are a small spreading plant, they would be perfect for rockeries or small planters.

Another vibrant and not to mention sweet-smelling plant is the Peony. Peonies have very fragrant flowers that bloom in the Spring, meaning that your garden will smell nice all Summer. Their colours range from a brilliant white, to red or yellow, and are large, with fluffy foliage. They bloom the best in a sunny spot, and can survive over Winter. Some Peonies have been known to thrive for up to 100 years. One thing to note however, is they do not take kindly to being moved to a different place in the garden; however if it needs to be moved, the best time of year would be September.

Finally, why not add some Sage to your garden? Sage plants have dainty yet colourful pink and purple flowers when in bloom, which means this plant is not only a popular cooking herb, but also a delicate, colourful plant during the summer months that looks a lot like Lavender, but with the added bonus of it being a herb. These plants are a great start if you want to develop a herb patch in your garden, or you can even put them in your windowsill. You can even eat the flowers if you so wish! Remember to take cuttings from your plant and plant them ready for next spring.
